TATREEZ 101 Kit
Accepting and shipping orders until December 20, 2024 while supplies last.
Embroidery, or tatreez تطريــز, is a centuries-old artistic tradition, passed from one generation to the next over a cup of tea. Learning Palestinian and Syrian embroidery requires just a few simple tools, and with this starter set you can utilize materials to make your introduction into the art form simple and affordable.
The Tatreez Institute’s “Tatreez 101 Kit” includes materials for an introductory lesson in cross-stitch on aida cloth. All you need is a pair of scissors! The starter set includes:
A double-sided postcard with custom illustrated stitching guidance, and a detailed pattern that describes the meaning and significance. The RESISTANCE TATREEZ kit has a four page brochure, rather than a postcard. (image 5 in the slideshow);
A woven garment label that states “Made According to Palestinian Traditions”, similar to those used in the refugee camps in the 1970s that inspired Wafa through her museum work (only available for Palestinian starter kits);
1-2 pieces of white or beige 11 count Aida cloth, each a minimum of 4x4 inches (if Wafa has it on hand, she will throw in some 14 count Aida cloth so you can give it a try);
A size 22 or 24 tapestry needle;
4+ arms lengths each of 3 thread colors in red, green and black (DMC pearl cotton thread, size 8);
While supplies last, a FREE swatch of Syrian silk fabric, produced in Aleppo, Syria.
Free 5x7 inch postcard featuring a historic photograph of a Palestinian woman in a thobe or doing tatreez (image 6 in the slideshow, please note that this image changes and the preview in this shop listing does not guarantee the same image).
If you would like to purchase multiple kits, bulk orders are available. Please email Wafa at wafa@tatreezandtea.com if you have custom requirements for bulk orders. Most orders ship within 3-5 business days. Bulk orders may take up to 7-10 business days, depending on quantities. Shipping is included in product listing price.
Please note that due to increased demand, kits are released in batches every 2-4 weeks.
